Kausani: A Blissful Destination

A weekend getaway to reduce the work-life stress is mandatory. Away from the pollution and commotion of the city, nestled in the mighty mountains of the Himalayas, is the beautiful village and hill station, Kausani. Located in the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand, the village is bestowed with magnificent scenic beauty. Without any set destination, you can often enjoy wandering around in the hills of Kausani aimlessly captivated by the panoramic view of the Himalayas. The village has few of the finest cottages in Kumaon and is a perfect destination for the tourists coming from all over the country.

Also known by the epithet, ‘Switzerland of India’ the pristine village is still unblemished by modernity. Located at an elevation of 1890 meters in Bageshwar district, it is a sparsely populated village. The fresh air and pristine forest pervade the fragrance of pine trees that make you feel replenished. With the breaking of dawn, as the sunrays from the early morning crimson sun fall on the snow-capped mountains, it feels enlightening. You can just sit back while sipping from your cup of tea and gaze at the enchanting beauty of the Himalayas.

If the tourist attraction spots do not interest you, immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. The ‘pahadis’ leave behind several trails that lead inside the pine forests. Follow one of these trails and explore the obscure destinations hidden away in the lap of Himalayas. If you are a zealous trekker, embark on a two kilometer that takes you away from the town to an enticing bright-yellow mustard field. The rocky trail leads to a valley where you can explore your way around hills, past the women herding cattle to reach the Rudrahari temple on the banks of the river. People believe that the cave temple was established after a mystic meditated there for years, which was also his residence.   
 
In the banks of Gomti river in Garur valley, located are the stone temples of Baijnath. According to the legends, the temples were built overnight by the Katyuri kings and if you find imperfections beautiful, the Baijnath temples are worth a visit.
